Historical Network Research

CREATE and Centre for Digital Humanities workshop

University Theater, Amsterdam, 19/06/2015

Historical network research is a dynamic and lively field. The concepts and methods of social network analysis are increasingly being applied in the historical research practice, but their analytical potential and limitations deserve further examination.

The workshop will be highly interactive in character, with presentations, hands-on sessions, Q&A and plenty of time for discussion. The morning session will focus on What, Why and How: what is it, why do it and how does it work. Topics to be addressed are types of networks, temporality and dynamic networks and qualitative and quantitative approaches to analysis.

The afternoon will have a hands-on session where participants will use open source software to explore and analyse various historical networks.
